During the past forty years, until his untimely demise, Mr. Yanni Geogalis played a great role in promoting the trade of Ethiopian coffee with Japan through business with many Japanese Companies, which popularized Ethiopian Mocha Coffee in Japan. Mr. Georgalis also offered appropriate advice on conditions in Ethiopia and served as a bridge linking the Ethiopian government and many Japanese business people operating in Ethiopia. His service greatly distinguished him with Japanese companies and people.

Therefore, the Japanese Government decided to award the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette posthumously on January 22, 2008 to Mr. Yanni Geogalis in honor of his service in promoting goodwill and trade between Ethiopia and Japan.
