JAPAN TO HOLD PHOTO EXHIBITION IN COMMEMORATION OF 3.11

The Embassy of Japan is organizing a Photo Exhibition in commemoration of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami at the National Museum from 26 March to 4 April 2012. More than 65 photos showing the magnitude of the disaster, the reconstruction efforts, emergency responses and rescue operations, among others, will be displayed.

The degree and extent of damage caused by the earthquake and resulting tsunami were enormous. More than 124 countries, including Ethiopia, and nine international organizations extended various kinds of assistance to Japan. Many countries from all over the world immediately sent rescue teams which played a significant role in saving lives. All of these and many more responses to the 3.11 Earthquake and Tsunami will be exhibited at the National Museum.

On the other hand, last year, immediately after 3.11 many people thought that reconstruction would take at least ten years, but, one year later, in most parts of Japan, life is back to normal.  This exhibition will also display photos of this impressive recovery.

The exhibition hall of the National Museum will remain open to visitors from 26 March to 4 April 2012.
On 26 of March, there will be a Grand Opening Ceremony, which will be attended by high-level government officials, Ambassadors, members of the diplomatic corps and friends of Japan.
