Karate Training in Ethiopia by highly ranked Japanese Karate Masters

 


From 31 July to 21 August 2012, two Karate Masters, namely Mr. Kato, a 7 Dan Master from the Japan Karate Federation and Mr. Yokomichi, a 6 Dan, and a coach at the Kokushikan University, visited Ethiopia to train Ethiopian Karate practitioners, with the collaboration of the Japan Foundation as well as the Ethiopian Karate Federation. The purpose of the visit was to expand the technique of Japanese Karate in Ethiopia, and ultimately to enable the Ethiopian Karate Team to compete in the All Africa Games.

The Masters gave training in Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa for 9 and 5 days respectively. More than 200 black-belt and other level Karate practitioners drawn from Addis Ababa, Dire Dawa, Harar and the surrounding Oromia Region participated in the training.

On 18 August 2012, the Masters together with their Ethiopian students, gave a demonstration where the students showed their progress from the training. Afterwards, the polished Karate techniques were demonstrated by the two Masters.
