On 12 January, 2013, the Embassy of Japan together with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) organized the 4th annual Japan Festivalat the Juventus club behind the Mesquel Square. The Japan-Ethiopia Alumni Society (JEAS), a newly established association of Ethiopian students who studied in Japan with monbushou scholarship also explained to visitors on gateway to study in Japan.

The festival under the motto “FEEL REAL JAPAN”, aimed to facilitate better understanding of Japanese development assistance at the grassroots level and to promote Japanese culture here in Addis Ababa.

Different booths showing activities of the Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) in science and math education, water supply and agriculture was displayed.

The festival was organized in such a way that visitors could really feel Japanese calligraphy, origami, Japanese food, the Japanese tea ceremony and many other Japanese cultures

The JEAS members shared their experience of high quality education and fascinating Japanese culture.

The Japanese Embassy and JICA started to co-organize this festival in 2009.
