Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme with USD 96,745, and implemented by a local NGO called Justice for All and Prison Fellowship Ethiopia. H.E. Mr. Hiroyuki Kishino, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ethiopia, celebrated the completion of the project, together with H.E. Ato Ahmed Abagissa, State Minister, Ministry of Justice, Ato Daniel G/Selassie, Executive Director of the Justice for All, and government representatives of the Oromia Region and Jimma Zone, as well as members of the community.
Seka is only 20 km away from the zonal capital, Jimma. However, the difficulty in access has long prevented humanitarian assistance from reaching residents in this area. In Seka, there is only one full-cycle primary school made of mud constructed, 50 years ago, and the aged school has severely deteriorated and has suffered from woodworm that has caused health problems among students. Also, students have been forced to study in overcrowded classrooms.
In order to ease the above mentioned problems, the Embassy of Japan responded to the request from Justice for All, a widely recognized Ethiopian NGO working for poverty reduction as well as human rights protection. With this project, a better educational environment will be given to children in Seka, and the number of average students per class for Grades 7,8 will be reduced from 80 to about 50.
H.E. Mr. Hiroyuki Kishino, in his speech at the inauguration ceremony, expressed his appreciation to the residents in the Seka community as well as the Justice for All for their devotion to the completion of the project. He also stressed his sincere wish that children in Seka will enjoy the full benefits out of this project and will build the future they deserve.
