Kutani, located in Ishikawa prefecture, became a flourishing site of porcelain production during the Edo period(1615-1867). The ware is characterized by the boldness of color and form. During the Meiji period(1868-1911), Kutani ware
became an export product and still thrives commercially.
There are also many individual artists who make Kutani pottery as original art work.
