This beautiful historical fiction film is based on a short story by noted novelist Fujisawa Shuhei, many of whose works have been made into films, including “Twilight Samurai”.
During the Edo Period in Japan, in the small Unasaka-Han in Tohoku-region, a young talented fencer Ito, the beautiful daughter of a samurai family, falls in love for the first time after crossing practice swords with Magoshiro, a young samurai of the Han. After the Flowers is a film expressing Japan’s seasonal beauty, the Edo culture and the true samurai spirit.
