Director of UNESCO International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa to receive Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation for 2020
Dr. Yumiko Yokozeki, Director of UNESCO International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (IICBA), is one of the recipients of this year’s Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendations, which was announced on 1 December 2020 in Tokyo, Japan.  
Dr. Yokozeki, who currently resides in Addis Ababa, has extensive experiences in assisting development of curricula and capacity buildings for teachers in Ethiopia and various other African countries.  Having worked as UNICEF’s Regional Education Advisor for Western and Central Africa and later the same post for Eastern and Southern Africa, she has been recognized for her tireless dedication to activities by these international organizations, which benefited African teachers.  She also worked for the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), both at the Headquarters and in African field offices, to provide technical assistance to Africa in the area of education.
In addition, Dr. Yokozeki has made significant contributions towards promoting mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and African countries including Ethiopia.  She has actively participated in various cultural events organized by the Japanese Embassy in Ethiopia.
The Foreign Minister’s Commendations are awarded to individuals and groups with outstanding achievements in international fields, in order to acknowledge their contributions to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries and areas. The Commendations also aim to promote the understanding and support of the Japanese public for the activities of the recipients.
