‘I received the news of the sudden demise of H.E. Ato Meles Zenawi, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia with shock and great sorrow.
Please accept my sincere condolences on behalf of the Government and people of Japan. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the Prime Minister’s bereaved family and the Government and people of Ethiopia.
Prime Minister Meles Zenawi was fully committed to the social and economic development of Ethiopia, made great efforts in working for regional peace and stability, and contributed a lot to facilitating the TICAD Process and strengthening Ethio-Japan relations.
I would like to commemorate Prime Minister Meles Zenawi’s tremendous achievements in so many areas of involvement.
Excellency, I extend my heartfelt sympathy at this time of grievous loss.’
