Japanese Government MEXT scholarships 2025
Applications of MEXT Scholarships for 2025 is closed
Last date to apply for the scholarship is 6th May 2024.
NOTE: Due to the large number of applications received every year, we are unable to confirm receipts of documents. Only the shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an exam and interview. Any inquiries made as to why someone has not been shortlisted will not be entertained. Only complete applications will be considered for the scholarship.

Monbukagakusho, the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) offers various scholarships for non-Japanese nationals wishing to study in Japan. In Ethiopia, the Ministry offers scholarship programs for Research Students, Undergraduate Students and College of Technology Students.
Guide line for MEXT Scholarship 2025
Overview
1. Eligible Nationality
Only those with Ethiopian Nationality can apply through the Embassy of Japan in Ethiopia. Non-Ethiopian citizens need apply through the Japanese Embassy/Consulates in their country of citizenship.
2. Types of Scholarship
The Embassy of Japan in Ethiopia only offers:

2. Undergraduate Student program https://www.studyinjapan.go.jp/en/smap-stopj-applications-undergraduate.html
3. College of Technology Student program https://www.studyinjapan.go.jp/en/smap-stopj-applications-technology.html

3. Submission of the application
All the application documents need to be sent by postal service to the address below. Submitting applications by hand or Email is not acceptable. The deadline for applications to reach the Embassy is by Monday 6 May, 2024.

4. Point of Attention
・Any change in the schedule of the application process will be announced here, it will not be informed individually. Please visit this website regularly for updates.
・Copy of Graduate Certification with Original University stamp that Embassy can accept as Original Graduate Certification.
・Transcript with student copy is fine, but it needs Original university stamp.
・Recommendation letter needs Original sign and Original stamp.
・Please read the guideline carefully before you apply to make sure you meet all qualifications required.
・Documents submitted are non-returnable.
・All application documents need to be typed. Hand written application would not be accepted.
・All documents have to be printed out vertically with A4 paper.
・Photo should be glued, not stapled.
Screening process
*Written Exam and Interview will be conducted physically in the Embassy of Japan in Addis Ababa on two days in a row.
2. Secondary Screening
The Secondary Screening will be conducted in Tokyo, based upon the evaluation of the examination and application set submitted to the Embassy. There will not be any physical exam or interview in this process.
This screening will be conducted worldwide competition.

- Document Screening
- Written Examination (tentatively in the middle of June)
- Interview (tentatively in the middle of June)
*Written Exam and Interview will be conducted physically in the Embassy of Japan in Addis Ababa on two days in a row.
- Issuance of Passing Certificate for the Primary Screening (tentatively in later July)
2. Secondary Screening
