MEXT(Japanese Goverment) Scholarship 2023: Guidline and Application Forms

          Monbukagakusho, the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology(MEXT) offers various scholarships for non-Japanese nationals wishing to study in Japan. In Ethiopia, the Ministry offers scholarship programs for Research Students, Undergraduate Students and College of Technology Students.

Overview

1. Eligible Nationality
Only those with Ethiopian Nationality can apply through the Embassy of Japan in Ethiopia. Non-Ethiopian citizens need apply through the Japanese Embassy/Consulates in their country of citizenship.

2. Types of Scholarship
The Embassy of Japan in Ethiopia only offers:
  1. Research Student program
  2. Undergraduate Student program
  3. College of Technology Student program

* The Embassy do not process applications for other programs.

3. Submission of the application
All the application documents need to be sent by postal service to the address below. Submitting applications by hand or Email is not acceptable. The deadline for applications to reach the Embassy is by Thursday 2 June, 2022.

4. Point of Attention
Depending on the COVID-19 situation, the schedule of selection provided here may change anytime or the selection process can be canceled with short notice. Any change will be announced here, it will not be informed individually. Please visit this website regularly for updates.
・Please read the guideline carefully before you apply to make sure you meet all qualifications required.
・Documents submitted are non-returnable.
・All application documents need to be typed. Hand written application would not be accepted.
・All documents have to be printed out vertically with A4 paper.
・Photo should be glued, not stapled.

 
Screening process
  1. Document Screening
Applicants must submit sets of documents as enumerated in Application Guideline to the Embassy of Japan no later than Thursday 2 June, 2022. Incomplete application and application received after this date will not be processed.
  1. Written Examination (tentatively in the end of June)
Those who pass the Documentary Screening will be invited to the Written Examination.
  1. Interview (tentatively in the end of June)
Those who pass the Written Examination will proceed to Interview Session.
*Written Exam and Interview will be conducted physically in the Embassy of Japan in Addis Ababa, days in a row.
  1. Issuance of Passing Certificate for the Primary Screening (tentatively in August)
Those who pass the abovementioned process are issued a Passing Certificate for the Primary Screening to be apply for Japanese universities.
 
2. Secondary Screening
The Secondary Screening will be conducted in Tokyo, based upon the evaluation of the examination and application set submitted to the Embassy. There will not be any physical exam or interview in this process.
This screening will be conducted world-wide competition.
